Self publishing vs publishing company

April 2nd is a day that brings back good memories of childhood. It’s a day when the world celebrates children’s books… wow how interesting. Colorful pictures of childhood books you read and owned should pop up in your head at this point. I can never forget fairy tale stories like Beauty and the beast, Cinderella, Snow white and the likes, taking up my young time and mind and they made me see myself as a princess lol. Who wouldn’t love to own an Enid Blyton’s copy of colorful and interesting stories? They are truly eye-popping.

She was one of the world best children book author from the 1930s and published over 600 million books in her lifetime which are still bestsellers even now.

Today, there seem to be an increasing demand for children’s books in wide range of subjects to reduce their dependency on phones for entertainment and also to build their mind. So if you are interested in hopping onto the wagon of book publishers and not so sure whether or not to self publish or outsource to a publishing company, here are a few that will aid you in your decision making process.

Colorful children’s book

If you have gotten to this point on this post, it is clear you want to make a head way with writing. You must have decided for yourself by now what topic or topics will be your area of focus. You may have written your book or still in the writing phase. Whatever the case, consider these before you move further.

COST

If you are new in writing, what comes first to mind is the cost of getting your book to the public. While this is very important to consider, do not forget what is more important…if you are interested in topping the chart that is, is to focus on the quality of your giving. It is very possible though, to get a superb quality self published book if you are one who pays attention to details. Self publishing saves you the cost of employing the services of a publisher. All you need do is get a good printer and a second and third eye for proofreading. Get a good graphic designer(they are everywhere and affordable also on freelancing sites) to piece together powerful illustrations of your story. You cannot seperate good graphics from children’s book if you want to succeed. Do not overlook getting qualified persons to go through your work before you bulk-print.

TIME AND EFFORT

Here the publishing company takes the lead in saving you time and effort. Part of their job includes proofreading, printing and marketing. They take away the stress of you going all out to do ads and campaigns to sell your book. If you do not have much time for this integral aspect of getting your work out, you may consider using the publisher. Don’t forget, they are professional in what they do. On the other hand, a writer with good digital marketing skills can do well without a publishing company.

TOP BEST SELLERS LISTING?

Getting to the top of the chart is the dream of every writer but as a newbie, don’t forget that success is not as magical as the book you create. You need to work hard to earn the name and when you do, it will yield its dividend. If you have listing as your target and priority, the reputable publishing company will sure help you achieve that. To self publish is to work your way gradually to the top.
